CELEBRITY STYLE, INSPIRATIONS

Last night while live tweeting about the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards’ jewelry, I realized that in many ways I am similar to my colleagues. I want to see celebrities wearing jewelry that is equal in personality to their gowns and pieces that make a statement. I was happy when necklaces finally made a comeback during the 2016 Golden Globes and Oscars and jewels were worn in the hair, on the waist or back of a gown. I am a proponent of piling bracelets up the arm and layering pendants, mixing periods and metals. I am all for color on the red carpet. But when it comes to earrings, I tend to stray from the pack.

Early on during the red carpet arrivals, it was apparent that large, bold, long, geometric and sculptural earrings were the major trend of the evening. And, although I can appreciate an outsized earring for an awards presentation and even get in on the giddy happiness about seeing a number of these proportions while tweeting— I tend to prefer those that you won’t want to take off, say, around a half hour after you put them on.

Of course if you are a celebrity and borrowing these large-scale styles for one special night—it make sense to stand out even if it might weigh heavy on your lobes. The 100-carat emerald Lorraine Schwartz stunners that Tina Fey wore or those equally glamorous but weighty looking floral styles, also by Lorraine Schwartz on Sarah Hyland got raves from the jewelry community. In this vein we can’t leave out Sarah Paulson’s Wilfredo Rosado’s elongated rectangular styles, which popped with her Prada gown or Tracee Ellis-Ross’s De Grisogono epic sized swirly circular diamond numbers that were the ultimate in elegant sophistication with her white Ralph Lauren. These are some of the styles that you will see on blogs, online magazines and in the news.

But there were also some extremely wearable looks during the ear-centric Emmy’s that offer inspiration. For women who want to add one or a few new pairs of earrings to their fall and holiday wardrobes, these are perfectly sized, lighter in weight, and won’t drag or pull on your lobes. And, you can wear more than one time.

For those influential style setting yet enduring styles, here are our picks for the winning styles:

Maura Tierney was one of my personal favorites when it came to the old Hollywood glamour she projected in a pair of Fred Leighton’s close to the ear 1930s diamond and aquamarine earrings. With the more trendy ear climbers, it didn’t take long for both antique and modern ear clips to be a wardrobe changer. These are more appropriate for evening but you don’t need an awards event to wear a similar look. Photo above: Maura Tierney in Fred Leighton. Photo courtesy ofRobLatour/Variety/REX/Shutterstock

Emily Ratajkowski’s H. Stern’s long swingy and lightweight earrings were show stoppers, without being ‘in your face’. They had just enough going for them for impact and are my choice for the style that women will want to imitate most.

Emilia Clarke’s mismatched Jack Vartarian earrings offer a look that is fun and can be considered wear anywhere and anytime styles. The also defy demographics.

Kristen Bell’s looked perfect from head-to-toe. Her Harry Winston earrings might have more diamond weight than the rest of the earrings we are showing but they still are of a size that women will feel more comfortable wearing Even if they aren’t wearing Harry Winston but a similar look at a more accessible price.

Michelle Dockery also wore Harry Winston. These are close to the ear diamond clusters that are perfect in their silhouette and proportion. Dockery always looks subtly glamorous and pulled together and this time was no exception.

” Beauty, exquisite design, pleasant and personalized attention. These qualities have been constant in our 20 years of shopping with Janet and Jeff Deleuse – Two exceptionally talented and caring people. The Best!’ Helen P.,Belvedere

"This store has a very pleasant environment and Jeff and Janet are both kind, wonderful people. I used Jeff a few times for appraisals and he was very thorough and was happy to answer lots of questions. He uses scientific methods and tests rather than going solely by appearance as some jewelers will try to do, and his expertise is well respected. On one occasion, he even went out of his way to help expedite a deal for me. He has my highest recommendation. Suzanne T., San Rafael, CA

“Jeff is an incredible gemologist who knows everything there is to know about gem stones. He is a true professional and can be trusted. The quality of their work is impeccible and always consistent. I would recommend Deleuse Jewelers to anyone looking for a new, “bauble,” for themselves or someone special!” Terri B., Ross

"I have used Deleuse Jewelers for many years - for everything from purchasing jewelry to repairing jewelry to getting appraisals on jewelry. Their service and work is superb. I highly recommend them." Suzanne S., Tiburon, CA

"I purchased this beautiful chain from Janet Deleuse about 3 weeks ago. It was an online purchase so I was hoping I would be pleased. It exceeded my expectations as it was exactly as pictured. Delicate and perfectly crafted. Packing was very secure and shipping was quick. I would not hesitate to purchase from Deleuse again! Michele, New Jersey

“Janet and Jeff designed and crafted our wedding rings and did a great job. They worked with existing diamonds we had in an antique ruby cocktail ring, added the sapphire stone and made a beautiful pendant with the ruby. In addition, they designed earrings for our daughters. All are still in great shape today. They are easy to work with and very reliable and trustworthy.” Peg M., San Anselmo
